The Stereophonics @ O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, December 20th.

Three dates smack in the middle of the Christmas festivities, an intimate venue and arguably one of the most popular mainstream Rock`N`Roll bands the UK has ever produced. Tickets sold out in minutes, it was a gloriously sweaty affair with the 2000 capacity crowd enjoying a massive two hour greatest hits set-list. The pure ease was evident at which Kelly Jones & Co adapted to there surroundings, i`ve seen this band command the most iconic venues this country has to offer. The Royal Albert Hall gig two years ago was like standing next to a Jumbo jet taking off while the Wembley shows previously encouraged an orchestrated array of singalong anthems.  The band are obviously using these three shows to draw a line between the recent Greatest Hits/Deluxe Re-issues and the new material promised for 2012 with Kelly Jones only breaking away from vocal duties to brag about roughly forty tracks they have stashed away for a new release – It must be tough being creative. For me, this gig was a no risk situation, almost like watching an old favorite film – You know what`s going to happen but you`re guaranteed to leave with a wonderfully warm feeling.

Handfuls of quality releases and over twenty years on the live curcuit under their belts, The Stereophonics are a million miles from taking it easy.
