The Grimps, A New Phenomenon in Children`s Animation. Rock`N Roll’s First Animated Band!

“By night they’re 4 cool, charming, irrepressible musicians on the verge of stardom. By day, they’re hairy, scary and tiny. A bit gruesome and a bit impish. They lived 500 years ago, cursed by the evil Spectar because he was jealous of their music and celebrity. So he cursed and turned them into ugly little grimps, to be banished from society for eternity. Until 500 years later their friend and wizard, Magic Alex found a temporary spell to change them back to humans, but from only sunset to sunrise”.

Such a simple idea, zany and delightfully quirky, i`ve tested Richard Sirgiovanni`s theory regarding the appeal of a Rock `N Roll animated cartoon in an age where children`s TV is dominated by ego busting US sitcoms, thanks Richard! you are now responsible for my eight year old daughter demanding the theme tune on constant rotation while loudly muttering her disgust in having to wait for the cartoon release date, I think we`ll call that a success then. I`m blatantly too young to remember the closest TV comparison – Bubblegum cartoon-pop sensations `The Archies` were right up there with the top Rock/Pop acts of the late sixties/early seventies in terms of record sales and viewing figures, it`s a superb result to have Ron Dante/Freddie Cannon to compose and perform the `We`re The Grimps` theme tune, it`s hopelessly addictive and musically spot on. There`s an interview special from iRocktv below, the show`s creator Richard Sirgiovanni talks in-depth about the story, characters and people involved with this very exciting and worthwhile project. Massive feel-good potential, watching cartoons with the kids has just got groovy, in the mean time I really need to get the theme song outta my head.

“Children’s television has had a void in recent years with a popular show, say’s Sirgiovanni. They never know when the next big thing will grab the kids…..I think The Grimps will be it”.

”Sirgiovanni hopes to have many musical pop icons and contemporary celebrities as voiceovers of the characters for the show. Some that have already shown interest are: Peter Noone, Keith Emerson, Mickey Dolenz, Todd Rudgren, Eric Burdon, and others are being contacted”.
