“Hot Fiction are a hotly tipped English Soul/Rock band. They’ve been aired on Absolute Radio, courted by Christian Dior and featured by Festivals up-and-down the country. The band are about to release their second album, Apply Within. The two members, Andy Yeoh (Drums & Vocals) and Simon Miller (Guitar & Vocals) met in school, where their shared musical understanding began to take root. By the time the pair finished university in 2008, both were experienced musicians with plenty of song-writing and performance experience. It was only natural that Hot Fiction, formed in 2008, would follow. The new album flirts with sweat soaked bar-room Rock and Roll like an explosive Molotov cocktail swagger – Space is allowed for occasionally slowing down the momentum, three or four tracks are blessed with some sumptuous bluesy reverb reminiscent of early `Free` or `Ten Years After`, if Dark Room was in a similar mold to The White Stripes/Black Keys, Hot Fiction`s sophomore release has broken a certain Mr Phil Spector out of jail for wholesale production duties. How just two guys can torture a defenseless fuse-box in this manner is majestic.
